I didn’t deliberately set out to get involved with restoring classic cars. My hobby came about as the result of doing a favor for a friend who was deployed overseas with the military. I sold the Ford for what I wanted, then put that money towards another classic in need of some repairs.

So this is what I spend most of my free time on now. With many people are going back to school to improve their chances of getting a promotion or changing careers, it has become necessary to juggle between academics and social life. When I was a kid, I used to love plastic truck models. I loved all kinds of models – plastic military models, diecast models made out of metal. The plastic truck models, however, were my favorite. In my mind, I was assembling a full-sized big rig. I was a mechanic, and my reward for my hard work would be to drive my very own truck down the road. There was nothing more exciting to my eight year old mind.

Now my boy is getting to the age where he can just about to start to put together plastic truck models himself. I am going to help him with his first one like my dad helped me. We are just about to go to the store to pick it out, in fact. This weekend will be great! We’ll spend the whole weekend putting together whatever he picks out. I can’t wait to see what catches his eye. Perhaps it will be a plastic truck model like his old man likes. Perhaps it will be a plastic airplane model. Whatever it is, it will be a true pleasure to help him to assemble it.

Of course, he won’t get to to the really complex plastic truck models for a while. When you first start, you have to use the snap together plastic models.
